Maren & Fold Moves Into Bedding With a Line Made From Recycled Cotton Waste

The company's first product category outside towels uses offcuts from its own manufacturing, and is certified to the Global Recycled Standard

PORTLAND, Oregon — 12 February 2026

Maren & Fold, a direct-to-consumer textiles brand, has launched a bedding line manufactured from recycled cotton waste, marking its first move outside bath textiles since the company was founded in 2019. The range covers sheet sets, duvet covers, and pillowcases in four colours, and is available from today at marenandfold.example.

The line is made from offcuts generated by the company's own towel production in Portugal, which previously went to landfill. Maren & Fold estimates that its 2025 towel output produced 31 tonnes of usable cotton waste. The bedding is certified to the Global Recycled Standard, an independent certification covering recycled content and supply chain tracking.

We had a waste problem before we had a bedding idea. Roughly a fifth of every cotton run ended up as offcuts, and paying to dispose of good cotton never sat right with anyone here. The line exists because we went looking for something to do with it.
Devon Maren, founder, Maren & Fold

The company has sold bath textiles online since 2019 and reports approximately 140,000 orders to date. It ships to the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom. The bedding line is manufactured at the same facility in Guimarães, Portugal, which Maren & Fold has used since 2021.

Certification took nine months and required the company to document the movement of offcuts from the cutting floor through to finished stock. Maren & Fold has said the same tracking will be applied to any future recycled line. The bedding is manufactured in production runs of 4,000 units, and the company expects the available waste stream to support roughly three runs a year at current towel volumes.

Sheet sets are priced from $118 and duvet covers from $145. The company has said the range will expand to include a linen blend later in 2026, subject to certification of the blended material.

The reasoning

Why this release works

The decisions behind the writing above — what each choice is doing, and what the ordinary alternative would have cost.

  1. The angle is the waste, not the product

A new bedding range is not news; a company that found a use for 31 tonnes of its own offcuts is. Retail launches get declined more than any other category because most are written as advertisements. Finding the fact inside the launch that would interest someone who will never buy the product is the whole job.

  2. The certification is named and defined

"Certified to the Global Recycled Standard, an independent certification covering recycled content and supply chain tracking" states which standard and what it verifies. Sustainability claims are the most heavily scrutinised in retail writing, and an unverifiable one — "eco-friendly", "sustainably made" — is a reason to reject the whole release.

  3. The quote admits something

"We had a waste problem before we had a bedding idea" is a founder saying the unflattering version out loud. It is more credible than any enthusiasm, and it is the sentence most likely to be quoted, because it is the only one an editor could not have written themselves from the press pack.

  4. Prices appear once, plainly, without selling

"Sheet sets are priced from $118" is a fact a reader needs. What is absent is everything that would turn the release into an advert: no discount code, no launch offer, no "don't miss". Promotional language is the fastest route to a declined submission, and it is the most common reason retail releases fail review.

  5. The manufacturing detail is specific enough to be checked

A named town in Portugal and the year the relationship began. Specificity is a credibility signal precisely because it is falsifiable — a company willing to name the facility is a company that expects the claim to hold up. "Ethically manufactured overseas" says less than nothing.

  6. The forward-looking line is conditional

"Will expand to include a linen blend later in 2026, subject to certification" states the plan and the condition attached to it. Announcing a future product as settled when it depends on an approval you have not received creates a correction you will have to publish later.

Risk reversal

Your release should publish — or the refund policy applies

You approve the final release before we submit it. If your approved release is rejected by the network, or does not publish, you get the full amount back. You do not need to argue for it.

  • You control the draft

Nothing is submitted until you approve it in writing.

  • We handle the process

We develop the angle, write the release, and submit the version you approved.

  • Publication protection

If it does not publish under the conditions in the policy, the refund policy applies.

About this sample

What people ask after reading one

Short version: the companies are invented, the craft is not.

  • No, and we will not pretend otherwise. Every company, quote, figure and name in these examples is invented. They exist to show you the writing and the structure, not to claim a client we do not have.

  • Because a customer's release belongs to the customer. Publishing one as a marketing sample without their say-so is not something we are willing to do, so we write our own to the same standard instead.

  • Roughly. A distribution-ready release runs about 400 to 600 words with a headline, subhead, dateline, body, at least one quote, a boilerplate and a media contact. Shorter than that and outlets have nothing to work with.

  • A person develops the angle and writes the release from the facts you send. You then read the complete draft and approve it before anything is submitted.

  • Tell us what is wrong and we revise it. One round of changes is included in every plan, and nothing is submitted until you approve the final version in writing.
